Chloe has shown some real interest in swimming this summer. After that day with Uncle Dan at the lake, she has continually claimed to want to swim by herself like Uncle Dan.
We still get together regularly with a few of the families from Chloe’s preschool. A few other parents and I decided to sign the kids up for swimming lessons together at Yost Pool, in Edmonds. It’s an outdoor pool, and perfect for summer lessons! ![]()
We have Brook & Chloe H. in class with her. Here are a few shots of the kids in class… practicing their kicking, blowing bubbles under water, and just having fun!
Remember the days of holding onto the pole at the shallow end of the pool??? Chloe is no exception. As my mother in law would say, it is “ancestral memory” when kids seem to do the same type of things as kids in prior generations (without direct teaching).
When Keith found out that Chloe was going to take swimming lessons, he literally begged me to sign him up, too. I tried……
…but he is both too young AND too old! REALLY! The younger kids take a “parent/tot” class where the parents get in the pool with their babes and just get them used to the water. Keith is way beyond that. He plays by himself in the water with floaties on. And the next older class is Chloe’s class. But you have to be a minimum of 3 yrs old to join that class. Keith is 2 so he has to wait until next year. TOTAL BUMMER!! He is crushed! So he hangs longingly on the pole, watching the other kids in the pool, sort of whimpering to himself…
Chloe’s teacher’s name is Ingrid. She takes the kids out one at a time and gets them floating on their backs, paddling on their bellies, and doing a crawl stroke with a ducky! One day this week she had them put on life vests and jump into the deep end of the pool and swim to the side by themselves (since they could float).
With the hot week, and lack of swim classes or pool time for Keith, he takes out his energy by streaking around through the sprinkler in the backyard.
NOW… this is the wonderful life of a little boy!
