New Penguin Exhibit

Our beautiful, local zoo opened it's new penguin exhibit a few weeks ago. We had wanted to go to the Member opening (as we are members), but it didn't work out and probably just as well with the crowds it would attract. My mom joined us for this gorgeous, Spring day. We packed a picnic and off we went! We made the conscious decision NOT to see everything - too difficult and rushed. We picked favorites and made our rounds.

My mom took this picture of the back of Chloe and I, just to show the similarities/differences in our hair. Interesting... Clearly, Chloe has the thick-Daddy hair, and I have very baby-fine hair. But we both have similar color & highlights.

The penguin exhibit is just so very cool! It was difficult to see them in the old exhibit, and really, there weren't very many of them. This new exhibit really shows off how amazing they are...

We also saw the gorillas, who were up and active. The main male was strutting his stuff...
And one of his many "brides" was carrying a baby up the tree. That was fun to watch!

While scooting around in our wagon, we got the kids an ICEE to enjoy. We passed a group of young guys (maybe early college), and as they passed, you could hear them talking to one another... "Geez, wish I were that kid! Being pulled around the zoo, eating an icee...!" I thought that was hilarious!

Finally, we enjoyed a yummy picnic in the sun of the big, grassy area. It really was a perfect day in so many ways!

OH! And we took this picture of the lions, sunbathing next to each other. How sweet is that?!?!
