LOVE & Discovery Park

Saturday was Valentines Day, and we are teaching our kids that Valentines is the holiday where we celebrate love. We don't want them to think it is only for boys & girls who like each other - but just LOVE in general. So with that, we found it appropriate to have a nice family day.

Phil and I decided, by high recommendations from others, that Discovery Park would be a great place to take the kids for exploring. And they were right!! We had a little lunch, and headed over to the park midday.

It was an overcast day, but not wet. So really, it was perfect for a little hike. The Loop Trail that we did is 2.8 miles and takes you through the woods, meadows and to a bluff that overlooks the Puget Sound and the Alki Beach. It was just beautiful - and there were tons of people out enjoying the day with us.

Keith started out ok on the trail, but quickly lost steam - surprisingly. I think it was just a bit too close to nap time for him and he was having difficulty staying motivated as we rolled up and down the hills of the trail. So he ended up riding about 2/3 of the way in his stroller.

On the other hand, Chloe did AWESOME! She walked about 2 - 2 1/2 miles of the trail, and had Phil carry her on his shoulders the rest of the way while I pushed Keith. But most of the way, she kept up great and even took charge to walk Rosie now and then.

She was also getting a kick out of all the people, joggers & doggies that passed us along the way. People would job passed and say, "What a cute doggie!"... and as they quickly moved along, Chloe would yell after them, "Her name is Rosie!" She wanted to give recognition where it was due!

Aside from the sites, the trail itself was interesting. There were really OLD trees that would entwine and be this huge mass of limbs. And then there were the fire hydrants... in the middle of now where... had to take a pic.
