Covington Cellars Tasting

My friend, Michelle, purchased one of the Living Social packages a few months back.  The package was a 2 for 1 barrel tasting and food pairing at Covington Cellars in Woodinville.  I was honored to be the one she offered to bring with her!

The day we had planned to go was one of the days, this summer, that posted in the 90’s… a VERY hot day for Seattle.  But the best place to be was in a winery!  They HAVE to keep their barrel room cold, and we were almost chilled sitting around our tasting table.  We couldn’t have planned the visit any better.

The  day started with a tour of the wine making room – all the machines, tools, presses, pumps, etc.  The winemaker was our tour guide and very pleasant.  He gave us some barrel tastes – a Viognier, a Syrah that still has another year in oak, and a Syrah that is ready to be bottled.  After our little tour, we were sweetly sat at a table assembled just for us.  We were encircled by barrels as to set us apart from any other visitors to the winery that day.

This particular winery has it’s own chef.  Not all wineries have that.  But with that perk, they can offer these food and wine pairings which are just amazing!  We had a flight of 4 wines, each paired with one of the four bites above…mini hotdog with a spicy Dijon, a roasted red onion stuffed with bleu cheese and sausage, a couscous pancake with roasted red pepper, and lotus root with pickled carrots, cucumber and red leaf lettuce.

After our flight tasting, we were able to pick our favorite and enjoy a full glass of it.  At that point, we were chilly enough that sitting outside on their patio, in the 95 degree heat, felt GOOD!

Of course, we hit the Guardian Cellars release after that…YUM!  A good day, with good wine, and good friends!
