Phil had noticed some tall, sailing ships at the marina in Edmonds. Upon further investigation, we found out that the boats were going to be available for boarding and tours through the end of the weekend.
So we decided to take the kids for an excursion after church last Sunday.
The weather was beautiful…warm in the sun, but cool in the shady breeze. Regardless, a perfect day for the marina.
Normally, the walkways down to the boats are locked to those who don’t moor a boat there. But not today! The kids enjoyed the walkways and the adventure down below!
The boat we got to see was called the Lady Washington. She is a training vessel by day, and a movie star by night! She was the shipped that was used to play the Interceptor in the Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
The crew dressed up for fun, but were working as the people toured. They were sanding the woodwork on deck, getting ready to oil it. Not even tour groups slow them down!
They allowed people to go down into the galley and the middle section of the boat. The forward and aft sections were off limits.
Keith was taken back by all the ropes. And there were A LOT of ropes! Pretty darn amazing to think that each one of them has a purpose, and remembering them as a sailor is impressive!!
The ship dog’s name was “Tiller”. He was so cute! He was very social, but also attentive to all the things happening OFF the ship. Apparently he managing the ship moral while sailing.
To finish off the afternoon, the kids got a chance to dig around in the sandbox at Anthony’s. Phil and I just camped out on the big rock, enjoying the breeze and the smell of the ocean air…
